| Craig Brackins in his Words
|
| July 1, 2010 -- In an e-mail to his former coach Jason Smith, Craig Brackins '07 reflected on his experience as a student and athlete at Brewster. "I couldn't be more grateful to Brewster Academy for the experience that I had there. In the classroom, it provided me with the necessary skills and tools to succeed in college. On the basketball court, I was pushed everyday to develop my game and given the opportunity to compete against the best competition in the country. Brewster provides an environment where you know people care about you as a person. That level of support aided me greatly in becoming the 21st overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft."

| The Nate Billings’ Classic: Bobcats vs. Cancer
|
| On May 15 the boys’ varsity lacrosse team played their last home game of the season in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of its victims. Nate Billings ’09, a four-year goaltender for Brewster, was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2008. He battled the disease and was cancer free by the spring of 2009, playing the entire 2009 season for the Bobcats. Billings, who now plays lacrosse at Bentley College, was on the sidelines cheering on his former teammates, including his brother Calder a junior at Brewster.
For this game against Tilton School, the Bobcats donned pink or blue socks and dyed their sticks pink. Each Brewster player pledged to raise $100 to donate to The Jimmy Fund and they did more than that, totally $5,138, which included donations from the Tilton players and the New Hampshire Lacrosse Officials Association. Since its founding in 1948, The Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients. The Jimmy Fund, which had a banner at the game, officially recognized The Nate Billings’ Classic. “Each year the team does a community service project and once we considered a cancer fundraiser as this year’s team project, the boys took off with it,” explained Head Coach Bill Lee. “This has really been spearheaded by the players, and brothers Riley ‘10 and Breck ’10 Merritt have been key in the planning.”
Breck and Riley secured a donation of 160 pairs of pink and blue lacrosse socks from Adrenaline Lacrosse and a pink goalie helmet from Cascade Helmet, which was worn by Bobcat goaltender Matt Bak ’10 during the game. Player Jon Behning ‘11 helped arrange for the banner and the official Jimmy Fund recognition.
"As a team we really wanted to do something to give back," Riley Merritt said. "Since we had a teammate, Nate Billings, last year who overcame cancer, and several members of our team have had relatives affected by cancer, cancer research was something we felt very motivated to raise money for."
"We had amazing support from players on the team, parents, faculty, coach Lee and coach Garnsey, Cascade Lacrosse and Adrenaline Apparel," Merritt added.

| basketball team. Just three days after proving they were number one in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A league, the Bobcats showed they have what it takes to own the national title.
At the National Prep School Championship, played at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn., Brewster defeated #5 seed Northfield Mount Hermon 79-76 in overtime for the championship.
This single elimination tournament featured the top eight prep school teams in the country. According to the New England Recruiting Report, “For Brewster the win was the culmination of a steady development throughout the season. Projected by most as one of the top two teams in the country in the pre-season, Brewster lived up to that and more as they are the first team to capture the NEPSAC Class A title and the National Prep Championship in the same year.”
In the semifinal matchup, #2 seed Brewster ousted #6 seed St. Thomas More 74-69 earlier on Wednesday to advance to the finals that evening. The day before the Bobcats convincingly defeated #7 Westwind Prep 93-83 in opening quarterfinal play.
Other teams in the tournament were #1 Hargrave Military Academy, #3 Winchendon School, #4 Notre Dame Prep, and #8 Tilton School.

|
| March 2010 – Louise Warren '10 (Pembroke, Ontario) was named Division 1 Ice Hockey Player of the Year by the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). Warren, who was the team captain for the Brewster Bobcats, was a three-year member of the Brewster varsity ice hockey team, which finished its regular season ranked second in New England with an overall record of 25-1-1.
“Since stepping on the ice for the Brewster hockey team in November 2007, Louise has been a dominant player in the New England Prep School League,” said Head Coach Jonathan Fouser.
“She is blessed with natural talent and works very hard to perfect and improve her game. She is one of the most competitive athletes to have worn a Brewster uniform in the last decade. Warren’s stats indicate that she is a prolific goal scorer but the most impressive aspect of her game is the simple desire to win. She competes in every zone, for the entire game, and never gives up.”
In three years and 83 games on the ice for the Bobcats, Warren accumulated 91 goals, 55 assists, and 139 points. Next season Warren will play for Division 1 Boston University.

| Junior Winger From the Ukraine Will be Missed TJ Palmer |
| December 6, 2009 - Yegor Bezuglyy pla yed a major role as a winger for the Needham, Massachusetts Rockets as they played deep into the MIAA state championships last March. An exchange student from the Ukraine, Yegor matriculated to Wolfeboro this year and quickly became a top forward for the Bobcats. Scoring the only goal against Phillips Exeter in the first game of the season on a beautiful individual effort, Yegor has been the surprise offensive threat in a young season. In the second game against Academie St. Louis, Yegor knotted two goals, the first a real "snipe" off a face-off and the second another great individual effort. This weekend Yegor is flying home to the Ukraine to participate in tryouts for the Ukranian National U20 team. It is a high honor to be given the opportunity to represent one's country in an international tournament which will take place in Paris, France. Obviously, the Bobcats will miss his scoring touch but wish him all the best in making the team and scoring for his country. See you in January, Yegor!

| Making History at the Head of the Charles
|
| October 18, 2009 – Brewster’s Varsity 1 (V-1) crew travelled to Boston for the 45th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. This is the world’s largest regatta, attracting thousands of rowers from around the globe. With this race, the V-1 team of sophomore Leah Soboroff (Pacific Palisades, California) as coxswain, sophomore John Steensma (Tuftonboro, New Hampshire) in the stroke seat, senior Connor Dunn (Lutherville, Maryland) in the third seat, junior Cameron Bierwith (Alameda, California) in the second seat, and senior Ben Goldlust (Concord, Massachusetts) in the bow continued to make Brewster history.
In nearly freezing temperatures, with high winds, rain, and intermittent hail, Brewster’s V-1 raced the three-mile course in a Brewster record time of 18:29. The Bobcats placed 22nd out of 75 crews and out-rowed perennial rowing powerhouses Belmont Hill School (2008 New England champions), Brooks School, Deerfield Academy, Chaminade High School, Wayland-Weston High School, and St. Anthony’s High School.
This achievement earned Brewster Academy an invitation to enter a second boat in next year’s Head of the Charles Regatta, which was the team’s goal. Special commendation goes to Soboroff for steering a very aggressive line down a highly technical course. The rowers could not have done it without her bold and skillful maneuvering and vocal motivation and superb management of the race strategy.

| May 26, 2008 -- 2007 Brewster graduate Stephen Keogh had a lot to celebrate today when he helped the Syracuse Orangemen to the team's 10th NCAA Championship. Freshman Keogh contributed two goals to the 13-10 victory over Johns Hopkins, including a behind the back rebound goal that made ESPN's "Top Ten" highlights. The third-seeded Orangemen met fifth-seeded defending champions Johns Hopkins for the title game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where a record was set for attendance at a college title game. Many Brewster fans were in the stands for the championship, including Keogh's Brewster lacrosse coaches Bill Lee and Fred Garnsey. "It is bit surreal to watch a kid you coached last year in high school making such an impact in the NCAA championship game in front of 50,000 other people," said Head Coach Lee. "Certainly there is a sense of pride, but mostly, it confirms the incredible lacrosse talent that Stephen possesses." The New York Times Game Coverage.

|
| April 2008 -- The Brewster boys’ ice hockey team will move to Division I of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council beginning with the 2008-2009 season.
The Brewster boys have achieved significant success in the Division 2 ranks over the past 10 years, with four playoff appearances, a finals appearance, numerous tournament wins, and more than 20 wins in two seasons. Brewster’s record against Division 1 opponents has been very favorable as well, with a .750 winning percentage this past season.
In another move consistent with the Division 1 decision, long-time coach T.J. Palmer has accepted the position as the new head coach. Palmer has 14 years of experience behind the bench for Brewster, including re-establishing the boys’ hockey program in 1987. “Moving the program up to the Division 1 level is exciting and a real challenge,” Palmer said. “It offers our current and future players a higher level of play and more exposure to college programs.
