Brewster Summer Institute (BSI) is an intensive four-week training program completed by all faculty members. The goal of the program is to ensure that all of our teachers acquire the expertise needed to deliver on the promise of our program and to be in the best position to advance student learning in the classroom, dormitory, and on the athletic fields. The program is taught by Brewster teachers who have demonstrated excellence in the classroom and an outstanding depth of understanding of our program. The BSI program has developed a reputation as a unique experience in teacher education that reflects the school’s dedication to the professionalism of each of its teachers and its mission to accelerate student growth.
BSI leverages what educators have learned over the past 30 years about the best ways to teach and the ways in which students learn. It translates that information into a powerful and practical technology rich experience, customized for Brewster's needs and program. The course offerings are diverse and include a variety of educational topics that reflects the intricate nature of the craft of teaching. Proven instructional methods that put students in position to be active participants in their learning and to demonstrate that they have acquired the needed skills and concepts is at the heart of BSI. To graduate from the program each faculty member must demonstrate mastery of the concepts taught, as well as the ability to use Brewster's curriculum to prepare and deliver lessons using each of our instructional methods.
