Preparing You for the New World

You’ve come to expect access to a high level of technology. We won’t just live up to your expectations, we’ll exceed them. You will be able to connect anywhere in the world from anywhere on campus with your own Apple laptop computer, given to each student upon enrollment. You’ll use your laptop every day in class, hooking into the campus network and Internet via a dataport at your desk/workstation. WiFi is also available to all students in communal areas such as the Student Center, the Estabrook Dining Hall, and the Pinckney Boathouse.

Receive, review, download, and complete classroom assignments. Conduct research for your classes. Communicate with your teachers via e-mail and instant messaging. Express yourself creatively—whatever the task, your computer will allow you to do it.

Our on-campus computer technicians—including a hardware technician certified in Apple warranty repair—will ensure that your laptop is always operating at its optimal level.

Besides state-of-the-art computers in every academic building, the library, and the residence halls, you'll also discover a vast array of multimedia resources to help you develop advanced skills in some of the most exciting fields in computer arts and technology, including desktop publishing and graphic design.

Brewster students enjoy extensive access to Macintosh G5s as well as cutting-edge software employed by today's real-world professionals in two full-lab environments:

Desktop publishing and journalism lab: In our dedicated lab, you’ll learn journalism basics and how to write for publication, scan and edit text, place text into page layout formats, and create attractive, professional-looking documents. You’ll apply these skills working on the Brewster school newspaper, The Brewster Browser, created entirely by students. They also design and lay out Outcroppings, a school literary journal, and the Winnipeasaukean, the school yearbook.

Multimedia labs: Our two multimedia labs rival—and often surpasses—that offered by many colleges. In computer graphics you'll become an expert in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, MetaSolutions Bryce 5.5, Painter and Poser as well as other industry standard software to acquire techniques in graphic and multimedia design.  You'll also have the opportunity to apply your skills to full-motion animation, including digital media and the mastering and editing of movies. Whether it is 3D animation or webdesign classes, you will learn how to use state-of-the-art programs to advance your digital skills.
