Brewster Lacrosse 2010 Season
The Brewster Lacrosse Team had another successful year in 2010, winning its 5th Northern New England Lacrosse League/Lakes Region Championship out of the last 6 years. Considering Brewster played 12 of its 16 games away this season, the 13-3 final record was quite an achievement. It took a month for the talented Bobcats to find their stride -- having a couple of tough losses in the beginning of the year (Rivers and Andover) -- but bounced back well and won some great games against Holderness (8-6), Phillips Exeter (10-3), and Tabor (12-11). Riley Merritt (Defense - Bentley) was named All-American and Jared Boudreau (Attack -Drexel) was named Player of the Year. Connor McNamara (Attack -- Vermont) tied Stephen Keogh's single season goal record with 73 goals this year. The Bobcats lost its last game of the season to Deerfield (ranked 10th in the country) but played them tough until Deerfield pulled away in the second half, winning 15-6. "Again, we are very proud of our players and what they accomplished this year," said Brewster Coach Bill Lee. "They really came together as a team on and off the field." Off the field the Bobcats, led by players Riley and Breck Merritt, organized "The Nate Billings Classic" -- a lacrosse game against Tilton honoring former Brewster Goalie Nate Billings ('09) and his fight against cancer. The Brewster players/community/family raised money for the event. Nate, now a sophomore at Bentley College and cancer-free, was presented a check for $5,135.00 made out to "The Jimmy Fund", a Boston-based program that helps in the fight against cancer. "It was a proud moment for our program," said Lee. "I think the boys recognized how a lacrosse team can do more than just practicing and playing games."

The Nate Billings Classic
Brewster goalie Matt Bak (middle), who is sandwiched between Riley Merritt and Breck Merritt, sports the Cascade Pink Helmet that will be worn at "The Nate Billings Classic" - a game between Brewster and Tilton on May 15, 2010 at Brewster in an effort to help raise funds to battle cancer. Nate Billings ’09, a four-year goaltender for Brewster, was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2008. He battled the disease and was cancer free by the spring of 2009, playing the entire 2009 season for the Bobcats. Each player is committed to raising $100 to donate to The Jimmy Fund. Since its founding in 1948, The JimmyFund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients. Any pledge is greatly appreciated. Please make checks payable to: The Jimmy Fund. The Brewster Lacrosse team thanks the companies Cascade and Adrenaline Lacrosse for their donations to the game. Adrenaline Lacrosse donated over 160 pair of pink and blue socks to help raise money for the Bobcats.
