Brewster squandered a 18 point lead to an athletic NIA Prep team to ultimately lose in OT, 103-99. A lack of intensity on defense, carelessness with the ball, and a lack of focus led to the Bobcats first loss of the young season. In the closing minutes, Brewster had several crucial turnovers, plus missed free-throws vs. the hard-nosed team from NJ. Brewster was led by Ashton Khan (Scarborough, Ontario) with 23 points, while Syracuse-signee CJ Fair added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Iowa State-bound Melvin Ejim (Brampton, Ontario) had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Brewster drops to 5-1 on the season.

Boys' V A Basketball vs. Rise Academy

Dismissal Time:
Departure Time:
Despite lack of focus and sloppy play for periods of the contest, the boys' varsity basketball team defeated Rise Academy, 102-77. In order to play championship-caliber basketball, the team will need to greatly improve their execution and intensity. Otherwise, it will fail to reach pre-season expectations. Unfortunately, the team has shown glimpses of selfish play, which in NESPAC play is recipe for disaster. On this day, Brewster was led by Will Barton (Baltimore, MD) with 21 points, while Melvin Ejim (Brampton, Ontario) contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds. Postgraduate guard Austin Carroll (Bedford, MA) chipped in 16 points, and fellow Big-East signee CJ Fair (Baltimore, MD) added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Naadir Tharpe (Worcester, MA) and big man Maurice Walker (Toronto, Ontario) rounded out the Bobcats in double-figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Ashton Khan had a team-high seven assists, while Tharpe added six assists.
The Bobcats hope to play with more focus and defensive intensity this weekend in the Brewster Invitational, which begins on Friday. At 4pm, Brewster hosts MCI, while the nightcap at 6pm will have Notre Dame Prep against defending national prep school champion, Tilton School. The tournament continues on Saturday with the consolation game at 2pm and the finals at 4pm.

Boys' V A Basketball vs. Brewster Invitational

Dismissal Time:
Departure Time:
Brewster welcomed Tilton School, a Lakes Region League rival and defending National Prep School Champions to the Brewster Invitational this year. Tilton, an upset winner on Friday evening over national powerhouse, Notre Dame Prep met the host Bobcats in the championship game. Everything seemed to go well for the Bobcats to start the game, as they played aggressive team defense and excuted to perfection on the offensive end of the floor. Overall, a greater sense of passion and urgency allowed Brewster to jump out to a 53-27 lead at halftime.
Brewster was led by Memphis-signee Will Barton (Baltimore, MD) with 34 points. More importantly, Barton played outstanding defense on Providence-bound Gerard Coleman, holding him to 12 points. Syracuse-bound CJ Fair (Baltimore, MD) and Ashton Khan (Scarborough, Ontario) each contributed 18 points in the contest. Maurice Walker (Toronto, Ontario) and Iowa State-signee Melvin Ejim (Brampton, Ontario) playeed outstanding defensive games, while Naadir Tharpe (Worcester, MA) played well from his point guard spot. Brewser played hard throughout and 12 players scored for the Bobcats in the 110-70 victory. Brewster improves to 11-1 on the season and hosts National College Prep (CA) on Wednesday at 6pm.

The boys' varsity basketball team improved to 12-1 with a victory over National College Prep (CA), 97-90. Brewster had a 16 point lead with under 2 minutes remaining, but again failed to value the basketball, and make critical free-throws to make the score closer than it should have been. Hopefully, the team understands the importance of finishing out a game, as it has many difficult games scheduled in the New Year against top-notch opponents in Class A, including several road contests. For the game, Brewster missed 18 free-throws. Memphis-signee Will Barton (Baltimore, MD) and unsigned big man Maurice Walker (Toronto, Ontario) each had a game-high 26 points for the Bobcats. Walker had a game-high 17 rebounds. Point guard Naadir Tharpe (Worcester, MA) added 14 points and 9 assists, while Syracuse-bound CJ Fair (Baltimore, MD) contributed 12 points. Dismissal Time:
Departure Time:
In a game where defense wasn't highly visible, Brewster lost a shoot-out in 2OT to Class A rival South Kent, 125-122. Brewster overcame at 15 point deficit with four minutes remaining to force OT on a driving lay-up by Naadir Tharpe (Worcester, MA) with 4.4 seconds in regulation. The last four minutes of regulation and each overtime saw numerous lead changes and was reminiscent of NBA All Star Weekend basketball. Not a lot of defense, but some spectacular offensive display. Brewster had a chance to win the game in the first overtime on a deep three-pointer by Austin Carroll (Bedford, MA), but it rimmed out. Syracuse-bound CJ Fair (Baltimore, MD) grabbed the rebound just before the horn sounded and drained a 15 footer to force a second overtime. Depth became an issue as the Bobcats had three players foul out. Fair led Brewster with 32 points, while unsigned center Maurice Walker (Toronto, Ontario) continued his strong play with 23 points. Unsigned point guard Ashton Khan (Scarborough, Ontario) had many spectular drives to the basket and finished with 15 points, while teammates Tharpe and Carroll had 12 and 10, respectively. South Kent was led by Pitt-bound JJ Moore with 35 points, while Louisville-signee Russell Smith had 24 points.
Overall, the coaches were very pleased with the fight the Bobcats displayed with their back to the wall in a tough road atmosphere. Brewster drops to 13-2 on the season and will host Phillips Exeter in a Class A contest on Wednesday at 4:30pm.

PEA played with much more passion, intelligence, and intensity, but came up just short with the Bobcats holding on for a victory, which was much closer than the final score indicated. The Bobcats played listlessly on the defensive end, which led to 7 three-pointers and numerous second-chance opportunities for the more intense Big Red. In February, the 21-2 Bobcats have many challenging games away from the friendly shores of Lake Winnipesaukee. On Wednesday, February 3rd, the Bobcats travel to play the Winchendon School, a team and talented team who's a favorite to cut down the nets in March.
