Things Seniors and PGs Need to do Before the Start of School

To get a jump on the college process this fall, Mr. Lee and Mrs. Duffy are asking students to do two things before they return to Brewster in September.  The first is to complete the online Common Application and the second is to register for fall standardized tests.

The Common Application
Remember: completing applications is the student's and family's responsibility, so it is best that it is completed over the summer when parents can to help. Therefore, we are asking students to complete the Common Application online at www.commonapp.org before you return to Brewster. More than 150 colleges and universities accept the Common Application (you can find a list on the common application website). For many students, this may be the only application he or she will need to complete. The essay does not need to be completed at this time, but it would be helpful to begin thinking about topics.  Students will be working on the essay in English class (unless he or she is taking AP English Lit) in the fall.  Also, if a student knows he or she is applying to other colleges that do not use the common application, please begin those applications as well.

The common application is available  at www.commonapp.org where you can create a free account. Don't forget to make note of the username and password.

Registering for Standardized Tests

We are also asking that students register for all the standardized tests they plan to take this fall before returning to Brewster in September. We recommend that students plan to take at least one standardized test, either the SAT Reasoning test or the ACT, in the fall of the senior/pg year, but students may decide to take them more than once. In addition, some may need to take SAT subject tests as well. Instructions for registering for both the SAT and ACT are below.

SAT Registration Information
Students may register for both SAT Reasoning tests and Subject tests online at www.collegeboard.com. Follow the link for "students" and you should see a section for registering for tests. If you already have an account with the College Board that you created last spring to register for the May test, you MUST use that username and password.  (If you create two accounts with them, it can cause a lot of confusion when you try to log on to retrieve your scores after the test.) PLEASE, please keep track of the username and password. If you wish, you can send it along to me, and I'll keep a record of it so we can access it in the fall.

The SAT Reasoning test and the SAT Subject tests are offered in October, November and December. Due to construction at Kingswood Regional High School, they will not be a test center this year. However, Brewster has been approved to be a private test center for our students only.  We will be a test center for October and November only.  In order to register for our test center, you must make sure that your online College Board profile indicates that the student is currently attending Brewster Academy. Our test center code is 30255.  If you would like to register for the December test, we recommend that you choose the Tilton School. Their test center code is 30245.

If a student has already been approved for accommodations for the SAT (extra time, computer) and has received an eligibility letter from the College Board, you can also register online. You will need the SSD (Services for Students with Disabilities) number, which is printed on the eligibility letter that you received. If you need this number, please contact Mrs. Enos in the Academic Support office at Margaret_Enos@brewsteracademy.org.

ACT Registration Information
If you would like to register for the fall ACT tests, you can also do so online at www.actstudent.org. Please keep track of your username and password for your ACT account.

The ACTs are offered in September, October, and December. We will only be a test center for the December test this year, and our code is 223400. The September test is the 11, the day before students return to Brewster (unless a student is a pre-season athlete). Therefore, if a student would like to take this test, he or she should register at a test center near their home. Unfortunately, the October test falls on our Family Weekend, and our office will be busy with appointments and presentations so we will not be available to provide transportation. However, if parents will be in Wolfeboro for the weekend, they may be able to assist with this. We suggest students register for the October test at Tilton School; their test center code is 155580.

If a student would like to apply for disability accommodations for the ACT, he or she will need to submit arequest of accommodations form along with a paper registration. Having been approved for accommodations for the SAT does not guarantee that he or she will receive the same accommodations for the ACT.  They are two different organizations with different requirements.  Please contact Ms. Ross at kim_ross@brewsteracademy.org or me at or me at laura_duffy@brewsteracademy.org to discuss the process for applying for accommodations.

Important: Please print a copy of your admission tickets and bring them in September when your student returns to school.

Hope you are continuing with your college research and are narrowing down your list. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!
