Laxers Raise Money for The Jimmy Fund
|
|
May 15, 2010 -- The boys’ varsity lacrosse team raised more than $5,000 for The Jimmy Fund. The team, which does a community service project each year, dedicated their last home game in honor of cancer survivors and in
memory of its victims. "Once we considered a cancer fundraiser as
this year’s team project, the boys took off with it,” explained Head
Coach Bill Lee.
"As a team we
really wanted to do something to give back," Riley Merritt said. "Since
we had a teammate, Nate Billings, last year who overcame cancer, and
several members of our team have had relatives affected by cancer,
cancer research was something we felt very motivated to raise money
for."

Strength Training and Log Cleanup
|
|
October 2009 -- A group of advanced strength students took their
muscles on a road trip and did some community service for a local
resident. The boys moved massive logs across muddy terrain and small
streams. They then split and stacked many of the logs and made large
burn piles of brush. "This was a fun team building/ community service
project," said Zack Apgar, advanced strength training coach. The owner
of the property is a single mom and was very appreciative to have some
help cleaning out her land that had been trashed by loggers.
