An InspirED School

October 7, 2016 -- Brewster is an inspirED school. InspirED is a collaboration among the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, Facebook, and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation. It’s a movement sparked by student voices: tens of thousands of high school students were asked how they felt in school and how they hoped to feel. The majority of students said they felt tired, stressed, and bored. However, when asked how they would like to feel, students said things like “happy,” “inspired,” and “respected”. This discrepancy between how students were actually feeling and how they wanted to feel was a call to action and the driving force behind the creation of inspirED.

The Future of Residential Life at Brewster

September 2016 -- Brewster is currently raising funds to build a residence hall that will be as intentionally designed as our academic model and constructed to support our distinct program goals. The new residence hall is proposed for the south end of campus, across from three existing residence halls and adjacent to Clark Road. The proposed facility includes 22 student beds and 4 faculty residences. The building was designed with a residential look and scale to create the feel of a home away from home for students and to match the New England neighborhood aesthetic.

Dumont to Participate in National Writing Project

July 2016 -- Brewster Academy English and writing instructor Jen Dumont has been selected to participate in the Advanced Institute for the National Writing Project (NWP) this summer. In 2003, Dumont was a fellow in the standard Summer Institute at Plymouth State University, a prerequisite for acceptance into the advanced institute.

Girls' Alpine Ski Awarded Director's Prize

May 2016 – Girls’ varsity alpine ski is the winner of the 2015-2016 Director's Prize. The Director's Prize was created by the Athletic Department in 2015 to recognize the interscholastic team that exhibits excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in the community. The award is given to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average and recognition scores combined from September through May. Additionally, to be considered for the award, a team must finish the season with a winning record.

Students Participate in Math Competitions

March 2016 -- In late February, Brewster Academy students participated in American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. The main purpose of the AMC 10/12 is to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through the excitement of solving challenging problems in a timed, multiple-choice format. The problems range from the very easy to the extremely difficult.
