Emotional Literacy at Brewster - Leading The Way

Brewster Academy is at the forefront in educating students in social and emotional literacy. The Academy has become the first boarding school to incorporate The Ruler Approach, developed by researchers at Yale University, into its curriculum. Head of School Dr. Michael E. Cooper,  along with other Brewster faculty, has begun sharing with other educators the evolution of Brewster's program and why social and emotional literacy are so crucial to today's students.

In May Dr. Michael E. Cooper, head of school; Peter Hess, dean of studies; Lynne Palmer, director of admission and external affairs; and Matt Butcher, English department chair; presented at the Independent Educational Consultants Association conference on Brewster's 2020 Vision and the need to prepare students with the skills that are important for life and careers in the 21st century. Brewster's integration of project-based learning and emotional literacy into its curriculum were highlights of the presentation.
