One way you’ll develop key skills at Brewster is through athletics. In addition to acquiring sports skills and enhancing your fitness level, athletics at Brewster help you acquire competencies in teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, and leadership that are applicable to every area of your life.
While recreational and instructional sports activities are available for all students, our interscholastic athletics see the most student participation. We field coed, junior varsity, and varsity teams (and additional teams as interest warrants), as well as eight- and four-person shells on our crew teams in friendly inter-school rivalries in the highly competitive Lakes Region. The Brewster Bobcats are highly competitive in Lakes Region League and New England Championships in a variety of sports including field hockey, soccer, boys' basketball, girls' ice hockey, boys' ice hockey, boys' lacrosse, and girls' tennis. The boys' basketball team is also competitive at the national level, having won the 2010 National Prep School Championship!
The Brewster Bobcats typically play games on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with teams practicing for approximately two hours on all other days, except Sundays. Students participating in non-interscholastic athletics may be scheduled to assist on the sidelines during interscholastic competitions held at Brewster. In addition, an athletic trainer is present during athletic events and practices. Our athletic director supervises all athletic programs and evaluates coaches. Faculty members coach at all levels. In cases where junior varsity and varsity programs exist, the athletic director and head coach will select the varsity players. Students participating in varsity sports have the opportunity to earn a letter and bars for repeating years; non-varsity players receive certificates. All returning students sign up for athletics in the spring trimester for the coming year. New students sign up when they enroll at Brewster.
Between seasons, you’ll stay in shape with athletic enrichment activities ranging from formal athletic training to more recreational pursuits.
