– Brewster Academy announced that its girls’ ice hockey team is moving to Division I of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council beginning with the 2006-2007 season. Since its inaugural debut in the winter of 1998, the team has experienced a strong level of success and produced some outstanding student-athletes in its relatively short history.

The team has won six consecutive Lakes Region titles and two New England titles. During this time, the team made the New England playoffs every year, including four appearances in the finals. In December 2005, the Brewster girls won the Deerfield Holiday Invitational Tournament where they were the only Division II school represented.

“Essentially, we feel that we have hit the ceiling as a Division II team, and a Division I schedule would be more appropriate to our team’s ability,” said Brewster’s Athletic Director Doug Algate. “There are only a few Division II teams that are competitive with us. In the past six years, our record against Lakes Region teams (Division II) is about 60 wins to four losses. I think that speaks for itself.”

“Our growing junior varsity program will continue to evolve to support developmental goals for our students to position them for a possible integration at the varsity level,” commented Jonathan Fouser, head coach of Brewster’s girls’ program. “We are looking forward to supporting our girls and wish them the best in the challenges that they will face in this new league.”
