UNDEFEATED!

Brewster Girls Win Class C New England Championships!

The Brewster girls' varsity soccer team defeated St. Luke's School 4-0 on November 18 to win the Class C New England championship.

It's the team's third New England title in six years.

We did it!

Joy! The girls pose for parents and fans after the game. Congratulations to coaches and players for a thrilling season! And a special thanks to team mom, Jean Knapp, for those wonderful treats that Sarah seems to be enjoying as much as the victory.

2002-2007 Season Recaps

The Team

The Brewster girls' soccer team competes in District II of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), also known as the Lakes Region League. Over the past eight years, Brewster has won or shared the Lakes Region title on four occasions. Rivals in the LRL include Proctor Academy, Holderness School, Kimball Union Academy, New Hampton School, Vermont Academy, and Tilton School. In addition to its competitive Lakes Region schedule, Brewster competes against several other prep schools in Northern New England, including Phillips Exeter Academy, Berwick Academy, Gould Academy, Kents Hill School, and Hebron Academy.

Since 2000, Brewster's success in the regular season often has lead to postseason success. Brewster has reached the New England Class C tournament in six of the past eight years. In four of those years, the Lady Bobcats have made it to the championship game, and Brewster has won the New England championship three times in the past six years. It is the goal of Brewster soccer to maintain this high level of success into the future.

The girls' soccer program aims to be as competitive as possible in interscholastic competition and to develop the techniques and tactics of its student athletes, while also teaching them the many lessons that sport has to offer. A number of recent Brewster graduates have gone on to play for college varsity teams, including DI University of the Pacific, DI University of New Hampshire, DII Wingate University, DII Southern New Hampshire University, DII Merrimack College, DIII Dickinson College, DIII Clark University, and Humber College (Canada). Other alumni have had the opportunity to play soccer at DI and DII schools, but have committed to playing hockey or basketball for practically year-round programs.

The Facilities

Brewster maintains seven playing fields on its grounds: each field is well-maintained and has a terrific view of Lake Winnipesaukee. The girls' varsity field is one of the largest in the Lakes Region League, allowing the team to emphasize skill, creativity, and speed.  In addition to our lakeside playing field, the team also practices in the Smith Center on indoor turf during inclement weather.

The Coaches

Matt ButcherMatt Butcher

Matt Butcher, born in Silver Spring, Maryland, and raised in Windham, New Hampshire, has coached the girls' varsity soccer team since 2002. Coach Butcher played at Drew University (Madison, New Jersey) and has trained in Dublin, Ireland. During his high school days at New Hampshire's Pinkerton Academy, he was part of two nationally ranked state championship sides. Also, during his senior year, he earned All-State and All-Scholastic honors. Coach Butcher began his Brewster coaching career by assisting with the Brewster boys' varsity soccer team in 2001.
