Classroom Tools

Much has been written and said about the best way to support faculty in their professional growth. At Brewster the process begins with faculty training in our rigorous professional development experience, the Brewster Summer Institute. Once the school year starts, teachers enter into a thorough support and evaluation program that gathers information from multiple sources. This information is managed by Brewster's powerful suite of classroom tools.

This suite of tools enables Brewster faculty to:

  • Develop quality performance appraisals
  • Share feedback with teachers
  • Access real time information on school performance
  • Participate in classroom support and coaching
  • Receive feedback from peers, supervisors, and students
  • Communicate school performance to stakeholders

These tools make the person-to-person communication that is at the core of every evaluation model authentic and effective. This means that the meetings that occur to debrief on observations, discuss student performance, and set personal goals are supported by valid information. The more than 400 classroom observations and 3,500 student evaluations of classroom teachers conducted at Brewster each year are examples of the kind of information that is used to make the professional growth process for teachers legitimate, comprehensive, and collaborative.

"These classroom tools help me provide focused feedback, share clearly defined goals with faculty, and improve overall school performance."
Peter Hess, Dean of Studies
