Student Activities
 |
You won't find a shortage of activities in which to participate at Brewster. Whatever your interests, you're sure to find a group that shares your interest and enthusiasm. Whether you're a movie buff (Club 25), a paintball enthusiast, a knitter, a dancer, or enjoy playing with children (Brewster Big Friends), there is something for everyone. You may prefer to spend time helping others with a community service project, participating in a school leadership position, or working on a local or international project with the Interact Club. Perhaps you just want to get off campus for a day of shopping in Boston, winter skiing, or seeing a movie ... the choices are endless. |

Celebration of Lifers
May 6, 2008 -- Mike and Andrea Cooper celebrated the 39 Class of 2008 members who proudly call themselves Lifers – those students who have spent all four of their high school years at Brewster. The Lifers joined the Coopers at the Boathouse for a special dinner. To the amusement of students, Dr. Cooper read select essays that students had written as part of their application process to Brewster. |
Senior Lobster Bake
May 5, 2008 -- The Class of 2008 was welcomed into the Brewster Academy Alumni Association – New England style – with a hearty lobster dinner hosted by the Alumni Office. Students feasted on lobsters, steamers, New England clam chowder, corn-on-the-cob, cole slaw, potato salad, and finished with ice cream sandwiches. Students dined under sunny skies at picnic tables outside of the Pinckney Boathouse by the lake -- the perfect setting for a lobster bake.
This dinner, which has become an annual tradition for the graduating class, was begun by alumnus, Alexis Pappas ’88. Thank you to the Stavis family (Matt ’10) of Northcoast Seafoods for contributing to this year’s dinner. Photos. |

April 29, 2008 -- Michael Weber of the Great American Opportunities Leadership Institute was back on campus Tuesday night for a seminar with the Class of 2008. He shared with students the five major changes that they need to consider to ease the transition to college life. These include making choices with the best consequences, choosing to participate in the education process, making and choosing the right friends because they will help define the kind of year you have, finding success through the ability to work together, and daring to think big and take those risks that might just catapult you in a direction you never before imagined. On the left, although Teagan and Derek appear to be all tied up (and they were), they are learning the difference between simple and easy. It may look simple, but it's not easy to get untangled if you haven't tried this before. |
April 23, 2008 -- The Earth Week celebration continues on campus. The day began for some students and faculty at 6:30 a.m. when they once again took the Endangered Polar Bear plunge into Wolfeboro Bay (See Video). At tonight's dinner students can participate in a clothing swap where they drop off an item and pick up a sweet different item, instantly updating their closet! Last night the Jazz Band and the Wind Ensemble performed an Earth Day Concert. Kayaking has been added to the list of Sunday outdoor activities planned. Other adventures include a hike, bike trip, fishing trip, and trash pick-up. More Information and Photos.

April 19, 2008, Lock-In -- The Lock-In has become an annual event at Brewster Academy. This is the third year that student leaders have organized an evening of activities in the Smith Center. Fun and games of the night included a giant inflatable obstacle course, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Mr. Barnett's special version of dodge ball, tug o war, basketball, and a variety of card games. (Photos) Students were also entertained by musicians in a coffee house setting. The Lock-In began at 9 p.m. and lasted until 2 a.m. Food was provided by the junior and senior classes. It was a great opportunity for good healthy fun on a Saturday night! |
February 24, 2008 -- Members of Brewster's Alpine Ski Team participated in Wolfeboro's Winter Carnival at the local Abenaki Ski Area. Here they weave through the giant slalom course with a firehose. Their competition included area fire departments who competed to raise money for AbilityPLUS Adaptive Snowsports and Recreation Programs. |

January 17, 2008 -- The freshmen class traveled to Camp North Woods in Tuftonboro to learn some useful life skills. Students were grouped into three teams and rotated through workshops about learning to deal with conflict, coping with stress, and even took part in building a shed to help realize the importance of working together as a team.
In the first workshop, students were broken up into two groups and given a business scenario of two businesses wanting one limited item. Each business made the seller different offers until all three parties met to discuss the conflict and work out a resolution.
|
The next workshop involved students working together to build a shed for the camp. The first team started the framing of the walls, the second team put up the walls and started the roofing, and the third team finished the roofing and moved the shed to its outside location.
“The most fun workshop was building the shed, it was fun because we all worked together and saw other sides of each other,” commented Tori ’11. “Also we got to help each other hold up the wood or hold the nail. It was a good experience to meet different people, too.”
Freshman faculty member Cathy Chaffee said that the ultimate goal of the day was team bonding. “Anything else is just a bonus.” The faculty hopes that students will be able to use these new skills in dealing with a conflict in the dorm or coping with stress during finals. |
| December 2007 -- Winter came early in Wolfeboro this year with lots of snow falling on campus before the winter break. Students wasted no time enjoying the fresh snow -- finding the best ski run or sledding hill, grooming out the perfect snowboard jump, building snowmen, playing tackle snowball, and heading out to Attitash for Sunday ski trips. There were also plenty of activities to celebrate the holiday season on campus before heading home to celebrate with family. Here's a look at some of these activities and the participants. |

October brings students at Brewster Academy a multitude of fun fall activities. Pumpkin carving, dorm decorating, a corn maze walk, a Halloween dance, and Haunted House trips are among the student favorites. On one recent weekend the boys of Sargent 3 created a "haunted house" called "the Sargent Slaughterhouse". Ghosts, goblins, and other creatures startled Brewster students and families. Following the Haunted House tour was the annual Halloween dance. Prizes were presented to the most original, spooky, and group costumes.
A Boo-ster Halloween -- The Admission Office opened its doors to trick or treat traffic in Wolfeboro with help from some of our terrific tour guides. With most sports teams off campus and returning late, Kendall, Max, James, Cooper, and Katie greeted our visitors along with the surprise appearance of the Brewster Bobcat. Supported by a beautiful night for the event, the Halloween participants kept coming and caused us to race to the store for more candy. People were greeted by our illuminated "Boo-ster" pumpkin message and had to give a high-five to the Bobcat to receive their accompanying treat. There were a few little ones who were unsure of his presence but most were grateful for the opportunity for a "tiger" hug. We're already looking ahead to next year's event .. .look for a special admission to the haunted house! Elsewhere around campus, students set up tables along Main Street offering treats and collecting change for UNICEF.
