A State-of-the-Art Learning Enviroment

Front of AcBrewster’s structured learning environment begins in our modern three-story Academic Building, affectionately known as “The Ac.” This building may look traditional on the outside, but walk in and you’ll discover the most technologically-sophisticated academic building on any secondary school campus in the United States.

Here is where you’ll take most of your courses in classrooms that are linked to the campus computer network (called Brewstranet), allowing you access to information from around the world. You’ll sit at desks that double as computer workstations with ports for connecting your laptop to Brewstranet. Each classroom is equipped with tables—big and small, round and hexagonal—encouraging flexible seating, individualized attention, interaction between students and teachers, and collaboration on classroom projects.

Facilities like these—that rival those of many colleges and universities—not only help in preparing Brewster students for admission to the best higher education institutions in the nation, but also give them a competitive edge when they enter the workplace. After all, in the modern global economy, technological skills are as critical to your success as competencies in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Within this building, each academic team—typically consisting of eight teachers and about 50 students—has access to three core classrooms, a science laboratory, a small amphitheater, faculty work areas, and a student lounge within this building. Another favorite student destination is the nearby Wilson Center for Teaching and Learning, a contemporary lakefront facility boasting university-level classrooms with innovative technology and teaching tools.

The Academic Building also serves as a “study hall.” Because we believe that preparing for college means developing disciplined study habits, students earn the privilege to study outside the Academic Building. Students who achieve John Brewster Scholar or Citizenship status recognition study in their dorm rooms during evening study hours of 8 to 10 p.m. Students not achieving such status work in study rooms in the Academic Building.

Take a walk around our campus when you visit. You’ll soon realize that Brewster facilities are designed to help you succeed. They are flexible enough to support your interests and meet your needs.
