The Kenison Library

library floor

Dedicated in 1979, the Kenison Library is a two-story structure that combines holdings of more than 32,000 books and 90 periodicals with a majestic view of Lake Winnipesaukee, the mountains beyond, and the playing fields below.

The Kenison Library offers a well-balanced collection combining the best of digital offerings with the best of print possibilities. We have risen to the challenge of re-inventing the library program to meet the needs of our techno-savvy students and yet maintain an inviting atmosphere for students to lose themselves within the pages of a well-worn book.

Current Databases Kenison Library subscribes to:

  • Alexandria - Kenison Library's online card catalog. Search for titles, authors, and subjects. Includes all 25,000 books, CDs, audio tapes, and videos held in the library.
  • NetLibrary (eBooks) - Contains more than 747 academic titles in the New England Academic Shared eBook Collection.
  • Columbia American History Online - Covers major events and trends in U.S. history since the Colonial era. Keyed to topics in the Advanced Placement U.S. History syllabus.
  • Culture Grams - Experience the cultures of 182 countries and territories. Includes photos, well-known people, and recipes.
  • EBSCO - A database with more than 300,000 possible sources.
  • NoodleTools - A step-by-step process to create citations and bibliographies.
  • Proquest - Indexes to more than 2,400 magazines and newspapers. Most articles are full-text.
  • International Newpapers - Daily and weekly newspapers from around the world.
  • Opposing Viewpoints Resources - A wide range of controversial topics drawn from social, educational, political, religious, medical, and health issues.
  • Oxford English Dictionary - Online version
  • SIRS Knowledge Source (Social Issues Research Service) - An index to more than 1,200 magazines and newspapers; most are full text.
  • World Book Encyclopedia - Online version

Newspapers! The library also participates in the N.H. State Library inter-library loan program.

In keeping with the school's dedication to integrating technology into all academic aspects of student life, the library's 102 study desks are all equipped with dataports for connection to the library's resources, CD-tower, and the Internet. Assistance is available from librarians in forming search strategies and assessing the value of information found.

Located on the second floor of the library is the John Brewster Scholar Study, a controlled access section reserved for students who have earned the highest level of recognition. JBS is based on overall student performance, not just grades.

Kenison Library Celebrations Book Club

The Celebrations Book Club is a great way to celebrate a Brewster student's accomplishment in academics, sports, and life's little challenges.

In honor of a student's accomplishment, a parent or grandparent (or anyone) can make a monetary donation to have a book purchased and placed in our school library. A special bookplate bearing the name of the student and a short message is placed inside the book cover. The book will remain in the collection as long as it stays in good reading condition.

To make a donation or for more information, please contact Head Librarian Shadow Gorrill via e-mail at shadow_gorrill@brewsteracademy.org or give her a call at 603.569.7113.
