— Alan Bain, Ed.D., representing Brewster Academy and The Endeavour Group®, was recently invited to address the National Governors Association on school reform and technology policy.

The conference provided a unique opportunity for Brewster's successful technology and education initiatives to be showcased in front of a group charged with helping shape education and technology policy. "Creating The Future: Technology in American's Classrooms," was attended by state governors' aides and education and technology advisors, and Apple Computer's regional and national education program directors.

"Alan showed us that technology is about much more than just wiring schools; it's more about changing behaviors and cultures of what teaching and learning is all about," said Dane Linn, director, education policy for the National Governors Association. "He was able to effectively illustrate how technology can be used as a tool to guide the delivery of instruction and essentially to drive all facets of technology in schools from redefining the role of teachers to the importance of funding professional development in support of faculty growth."

In his address, Bain described the challenges in technology related school reform and used Brewster and its Brewster School Design Model as examples in describing the keys to successful reform initiatives. Bain provided the governors' advisors with insights on how to undertake technology related reform successfully, shared what works with them, and what to look for in successful reforms to help inform future policy decision at the state and national levels.

"It is exciting to see how seriously the Endeavour-Brewster partnership and the effort at Brewster is being taken in the national conversation on school reform and technology," Bain said.

The Endeavour Group® provides custom design technology based on well established research in teaching, learning, technology, and leadership. Endeavour's® expertise is in weaving research and practice together into a comprehensive school design. The existence of the group is predicated on the belief that schools are complex human systems that cannot be reformed piecemeal with isolated innovations or broad brush conceptual models.
