Brewster Presentation at TABS Conference Rated As "Phenomenal" Contact: Washington, D.C., Dec. 2-5, 1999 — Representatives from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., presented a session on "Making Meaningful Use of Information Technology in the Boarding School" at the 1999 TABS (The Association of Boarding Schools) Conference. The presentation was well received with one attendee calling it "phenomenal." Dr. Alan Bain, associate headmaster, and Eric Burns, manager of information systems at Brewster, were chosen to lead this session based on Brewster's position at the forefront of technology integration into independent school curriculum. The comprehensive workshop addressed the potentials, issues, and challenges associated with deploying information technology in the boarding environment. It focused on classroom/dormitory-curriculum connections, the school intranet, the design and use of physical space, technology policy, and network management. Attendees of the session found Bain and Burns' insights on the issues and practical knowledge about implementing a campus-wide technology program informative and impressive. "I learned more from this program than any other at this conference," wrote a dean of students in an evaluation of the presentation. Another dean of students wrote that it was the best and most useful presentation at the conference. The dean of faculty from a boarding school rated the presentation "outstanding" and would like to visit Brewster.
