Brewster Academy Summer Session - BASS 2008 "A Perfect Summer" - It's both a Credit-granting School and An Adventure Camp
(Left to Right) New BASS students engaged in ice breakers on opening day, some of the marchers in the July 4th parade, and a few more on a weekend hike.
Respectfully yoursBrewster summer school is based on the same fundamental principle that guides Brewster's academic program during the year, the unarguable tenet that people learn in different ways and at different rates. Respect for that truth led us to design our summer program as a small, intensive, camp/school in which individualized attention is paramount. Parents understand that the world is changing and becoming more competitive. They look for opportunities to provide advantages that will enable their children to experience a happy and successful life in this new environment. Respect for that parental responsibility has led us to design a program that intensively teaches both the most important traditional skills of reading and writing, or math, but also those important new requirements: individual critical thinking, collaborative teamwork, and fluency with information technology. Students understand that it is summer and that summer is a time for fun and excitement. Respect for that imperative has led us to design a program that takes advantage of our most beautiful location on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake within New England, and nearby mountains, forests, and rivers, as well as the coast of Maine. We offer skills training in rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and a variety of field and court sports. We understand that individual students are motivated to learn in different ways. Some learn based on the perceived importance of what is taught/offered. They learn because they, their parents, their school, or their culture tell(s) them that it is important to do so. They are able to prioritize. They may be the lucky ones, because that is what schoo Too good to be true?
