Summertime Happenings Around Campus

Summer is finally in full swing. Prior to now, things have been relatively quiet on campus. Of course, "relatively quiet" does not equate with quiet. Thus far, during June, we have hosted the annual New Hampshire Conference of the Church of Christ attended by about 450 conferees from across the state. We have catered two weddings and two rehearsal dinners in the Pinckney Boathouse and on Palazzo Field and the boy scouts have held their annual jamboree on one of our playing fields near the lake. There have been several fund raisers in the Estabrook and, of course, there was the Brewster Reunion followed by the Brewster Academy Bobcat Open dinner and live and silent auctions which took place in the Pinckney Boathouse.

We have also been busy with faculty and staff orientations and final preparations prior to the start up of our three major student programs, The Royal Thai Scholar program, The Brewster Academy Summer Session, and the Heifetz International Music Institute. There was a lot going on. We had people as actor/victims lying on the ground receiving CPR and others in splints and bandages. There were a couple of dozen pianos moved into various rooms around campus. Computers were made ready for distribution to all staff and students, canoe and kayak trailers were fitted out and safety checked, books piled up in classrooms, music stands sprouted like Dandelions, and teachers and teaching assistants were preparing for their new students by doing file reviews in BASS and learning about the challenges of cultural adaptation in the Thai program.

And now... we are underway!

Thai Scholars have been in residence since June 16, the first day of their eleven-weeks stay at Brewster and their ten-year stays in America through their PhDs. See Thai Photo Gallery (under construction).

Heifetz International Music Institute students arrived over the weekend of June 23 and are in residence through August 4. This year's students are the most talented and diverse group of students in the Institute's six year tenure at Brewster. Heifetz students attend the Institute to learn how to go beyond making merely beautiful music. They are coached in finding the soul of the music and being able to translate that for their audience through their own interpretation. Once again this year, there are free-of-charge student concerts on Monday and Wednesday evenings. These student concerts are excellent. What should not be missed, however, are the faculty concerts on Thursday evenings in Anderson Hall. It is like having Carnegie Hall come to Wolfeboro. All concerts are at 7:30 PM. See recent article.

Brewster Academy Summer Session students also arrived on the weekend of June 23. Summer session will be in residence through August 3. See BASS Photo Gallery. (under construction).
