We celebrate the start of May with one of our most recognizable Brewster alums in recent years: Ryder Garnsey ’14. Garnsey, a Wolfeboro native, was a two-sport standout starring on our hockey and lacrosse teams and is arguably the best lacrosse player Bobcat Nation has ever seen. He was also a very good goalie for the hockey program and in his senior year was part of a league title-winning golf team. Over the course of his four years, Garnsey finished with nine varsity letters, won four Lakes Region League championship titles, and was a two-time league all-star. Additionally, Ryder is the all-time leader in total points in Brewster’s storied lacrosse program. Upon graduation from Brewster, Garnsey attended Phillips Andover Academy for a postgraduate year and had another banner season for the Big Blue. He was named an Under Armour All-American and was the top attackmen recruit in the country by U.S. Lacrosse, signing a letter of intent to attend Notre Dame.

During his time in playing for the Fighting Irish, Garnsey lived up to all the lofty expectations and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and a U.S. Lacrosse All-American in 2017. Additionally, he helped the Irish to two conference championships over the course of his four years in South Bend. After graduating from Notre Dame, Garnsey moved on to play professionally in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) for the Redwoods, where he is in his third season.

“Ryder was just a fun athlete to have here in Bobcat Nation during his four years at Brewster,” noted Director of Athletics Matt Lawlor. “He was obviously very gifted, not just in lacrosse but as a hockey player as well. He played a major role in both programs for four years, which is very rare at this level. As gifted of an athlete as he was for us, he had an incredible competitive drive. I love that he has continued with that drive at the next level. Not surprised at all to see Ryder having such great success as a player but also as a coach on the Notre Dame staff!”
