Alum of the Month-March
Shayla Meehan ’17
William Smith College Lacrosse
Shayla Meehan ’17 is arguably one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes Brewster has had in recent years—a bonafide star in all three seasons for Bobcat Nation, making major contributions once she arrived on campus her freshman year in field hockey, alpine skiing, and lacrosse. Meehan, a Mirror Lake, N.H. native, earned 12 varsity letters in her four years and earned all-league honors in all three sports. Additionally, she helped the field hockey team to two Lakes Region League titles, led the Alpine team to two NEPSAC Championships and an individual NEPSAC title, along with captaining a lacrosse team that pulled off a thrilling upset over a very strong New Hampton School to win the Lakes Region League Tournament in her final performance as a Bobcat.
“Shayla did it all for Brewster during her time here as a lifer,” notes Director of Athletics Matt Lawlor. “She was a major contributor all three seasons and was a quiet, reserved, but effective leader at this school during her four years! Not surprised at all to see what she has accomplished at the next level.”
Meehan moved on to William Smith College, where she has had similar success in her collegiate career and is currently a senior preparing for her last year of lacrosse for the Herons. A speedy midfielder, she has been a member of two Liberty League Championship teams, and as a sophomore was named to the conference’s All-Academic team. Meehan is optimistic about the coming season and is just looking forward to being back with her teammates playing the sport she loves!
“Shayla is an awesome athlete who has a great work ethic,” notes her Brewster Lacrosse coach, Melissa Lawlor. “At Brewster she was incredibly reliable and was a terrific captain in her senior year. I am just so thrilled to see her playing at William Smith and having such success representing Bobcat Nation in the Liberty League!”
Meehan is an economics major and is in the process of planning for her next step upon graduation. She is hoping to land a position in either finance or marketing, but for now, she is just excited about having another shot of competing at William Smith.
