Bobcats of the Week

Brewster Athletics

Prep Basketball strung together a four-win week as the Bobcats defeated Tilton (Tuesday), New Hampton (Friday), Northfield Mount Hermon (Saturday), and Redemption Christian (Sunday) to improve their record to 23-2 for the season. Several Bobcats had big weeks, but it has been the play of post-graduate guard Javohn Garcia that has impressed the Brewster faithful. Garcia’s tenacity on defense and clutch scoring are the main reasons why the Bobcats are experiencing another successful season.

"We really enjoy Javohn because he always competes and plays defense," noted veteran head coach Jason Smith. “At this time of the year, Javohn’s approach can elevate us as we head into crunch time."

Garcia, who signed a letter of intent to play at UMass next year, will lead his Bobcats into another busy week as Brewster travels to Proctor (Wednesday) and then is home against St. Thomas Moore (Friday) and Notre Dame (Saturday).

Great work, Javohn!

Harry Davis, a newcomer to Bobcat Nation, put together an impressive week for the boys‘ varsity basketball team. Through the past four games Davis averaged 31 points per game as the sharpshooting lefty scored 34 (vs. Hyde), 19 (vs. Landmark), 40 (vs. New Hampton), and dropped 34 against Lee Academy this past Sunday. Davis has evolved as one of the best guards in the MAISAD League.

"Harry has given us a huge lift offensively this year," noted head coach Matt Lawlor. “He can score in a variety of plays and always wants the ball down the stretch. He has been fun to coach this season."

Davis showed his clutch skills on Friday night, where in the last minute of the game, he went six for six from the free throw line to seal a win over league rival New Hampton.  "Harry had it clicking for him this week, and we just wanted the ball in his hands down the stretch in the New Hampton win," recalled Lawlor.

Davis and Co. will head into another busy week as they host to Gould (Wednesday) and Redemption Christian (Saturday).
