Bobcats of the Week

Sundays may be a day off for most, but not for the Brewster Tennis program. In early spring in northern New England, you pick your spots. If a nice day emerges, you sprint to the courts and do all you can to train and prepare for the season ahead—for hours on end until that nice day passes. Sidelined many days in a row by less-than-stellar outdoor tennis weather, one tennis team took it upon themselves on a Sunday afternoon this past week to install Brewster’s brand new custom windscreens at the Zarkin Tennis Complex for the good of the entire program and recreational racket players alike. They did not seek glory or praise. And, not until after the fact did coaches, athletics staff, and other tennis players see their well-done finished product. A hearty hear hear and thank you to our Bobcats of the Week, the Boys’ Varsity Tennis team.

The life of a rower is not always glorious. Early mornings. Late nights. Training at all costs for sometimes just a quick six-minute race. Wind. Rain. Sleet. Waves cascading off the hull of a boat. Coaches and coxswains barking at you whether in the water or on the erg machine to be faster, work harder, do more! The teamwork and cooperation required to produce a fast boat, working in perfect harmony for the good of the whole, is a special feat. But this past week, Brewster Crew added adapting to northern New England’s snowy spring fury to the list! Teaming up with Brewster’s Maintenance Department, and shoveling literal feet of snow from the waterfront area, Brewster Crew worked together tirelessly, as servant leaders, without complaint, for 90+ minutes. For this, the team has been recognized as Bobcats of the Week. Thank you Brewster Crew, and special shoutout to Henry Hu ’27 who managed to use a kayak paddle as his shovel to clear quite a bit of snow. Here’s to warmer days ahead!
