Crew

Located on the beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, Brewster is one of the few New England boarding schools that offer crew in both the fall and spring seasons. From September to early November, our program trains in both big and small boats to work on technique, fitness, strength, and endurance. We also take advantage of our on-campus facilities, including our eight-person indoor rowing tanks and our weight room. This past fall, we carried one of the largest rosters in program history, and earned four bids to race at the Head of the Charles in Boston. Amongst the coed roster, our crews earned over 10 podium finishes at the Textile, New England Championship, Head of the Fish, and the Braxton Regattas respectively. Additionally, the Brewster rowing program hosts the Winni Chase, and celebrated its inaugural season-opener this past September.

Over the winter, members of our team either compete in an interscholastic sport or participate in our advanced strength and conditioning program to put on some miles on the ergs and improve overall aerobic capacity in preparation for the upcoming spring season. The spring season kicks off with a trip down to Austin, Texas where varsity athletes train out of Texas Rowing Center on Lady Bird Lake. As the team sets their sights on competitive sprint racing against other scholastic programs, our qualifying crews look forward to competing at NEIRA’s in Worcester at the end of the school year. From that point, many of our athletes will represent Brewster at US Rowing Olympic Development Program camps, or train with their club teams in the summer.

As coaches, we hold our athletes to high standards at the boathouse and in the classroom. In fact, many of our rowers and coxswains hold leadership positions on campus in addition to earning Cum Laude distinctions and Citizenship recognition scores.
