Field Term

Field Term is a trimester-long, place-based immersion experience. Students will live, explore, and learn together at a stunning site in New Hampshire’s Belknap Mountains. Trading their dorm rooms for cabins, students will learn applied skills and discover the connective tissue that links science, mathematics, the humanities, and art. The three pillars of this unique program are place-based education, intentional technology integration, and outdoor skills and leadership.

Field Term is open to returning Brewster sophomores, juniors, seniors and to first year post-graduate students. The cost is $3,000 per trimester.

Mission

The Founder of Field Term Ben Rendall '07 explains the mission is to educate students through both heart and mind as we enable them to be future stewards of our planet. Life in Field Term

Students divide their days at Camp Bell between classes, outdoor activities, and shared downtime - although each element takes on the unique experience of being immersed in the natural world. This placed-based education creates countless opportunities for connections between learning and real-world application.

The Location

Field term takes place at Camp Bell in Gilmanton, N.H., a short 35 minutes from the Brewster campus. Easy access to Manning lake, Round Pond, and the Suncook watershed provides a wealth of diverse outdoor learning settings, while the on-site admin building serves as the main indoor classroom, computer lab, and WiFi access point for students.

Costs and Supplies

The Field Term trimester-long program and the cost is $3,000. Financial aid may be available. Please contact Susan Harrington at sharrington@brewsteracademy.org to inquire. Students should be sure to have some essential supplies, which include hiking boots, a sturdy rain coat, a field journal, and a camera. (Mountain bike optional!)
