Q. What was the transition to Brewster like, and how did the faculty and students at Brewster support you in the process?

A. My transition to Brewster was easier than I had expected. I was super overwhelmed and worried about meeting new people or finding my classes, but it was the complete opposite. My dorm parent, the teachers, and older students helped me find my classes and answered any questions I had. Within the first weeks of being on campus, I felt well adjusted to living away from home.

Q. Tell us about your experience being a part of Instructional Support (IS). What do you enjoy most about the class, and how do you think it has benefited you?

A. IS has helped me transition into high school academically and improve on other academic goals I had. I love IS because you have a great support system to thrive as an individual student. IS has benefited my reading, writing, organization, time management, and study skills to meet each of my academic goals. It has truly helped me become the best version of my academic self.

Q. What interim studies did you participate in last year, and what did you learn?

A. Last year, I participated in two different interim studies, The Freshmen Experience: Cadiz and Painting with Bob Ross. Freshmen are offered a global trip, which is to Cadiz, Spain. Due to Covid-19 we were not able to go abroad. Instead, we experienced Cadiz, Spain, in a different way. Over the five days, we focused on learning about the culture, food, and artifacts in Cadiz. My favorite part was making churros, and hopefully, we will be able to go in 2022! For week two of interim studies, I did Painting with Bob Ross. We watched videos from "The Joy of Painting" and spent a couple of hours trying to replicate the painting. At the beginning of the week, my painting was not looking the best, but I had learned so much just four days later. Even though I had never painted before that week, I learned a lot quickly and had a blast while doing it.

Q. What is the best place to watch the sunset on campus?

A. The best place on campus to watch the sunset with friends is on the Wheeler Patio. The patio overlooks the turf and the lake, and it's always a great place to watch the sun go down!

Q. What is the best ice cream place in town?

A. Bailey’s Bubble :)

Q. What surprised you most about your freshman year, something that you weren't necessarily expecting (in a positive way)? It could be a program, a class, a relationship, an experience, etc.

A. Something that surprised me positively about my freshman year was the amount of support you have, not just from the teachers but also from the students. All the teachers and faculty who work at Brewster are truly there for each student, whether they know them or not. Whatever you need help on, teachers, coaches, and dorm parents are here to help you at any time of day. Also, the students support each other in the classroom, in the dorm, on the sports field. Everyone in the Brewster community is here to support you whenever you need it!
