Le Cordon Bleu: A New Journey for Carter King ‘19

Le Cordon Bleu: A New Journey for Carter King ‘19
Brewster News

Carter is what one might call a true “citizen of the world.” Growing up, his family moved around a lot due his father’s commitments as a diplomat. At the time he made the decision to come to Brewster, his family was living in Indonesia (his mother’s country). “We were advised that high school in the United States would be a better choice for me to find the right challenge. I applied to a number of private boarding schools in New England, and when I visited Brewster I thought to myself – this is the one.”

Carter is a lifer (four-year student) at Brewster, and has been part of the Crew team since his Freshman year. He is enthusiastic about languages and is currently taking Spanish, and really enjoys skiing. But Carter’s true passion is a unique one: he loves to cook. “I have always loved the idea of cooking. It sounds cliche, but cooking with my mom and learning from her is what got me so into it. I am always open to trying new things… just as long as it’s nothing too crazy, like brains.” Despite his busy academic and athletic schedule at Brewster, Carter finds the time to cook meals on campus for his advisory and team.

He has had a very clear sense of how he wants to pursue a career that involves this passion. He researched the application process for culinary schools and chose to pursue the programs of  Le Cordon Bleu and found out at the end of this summer that he was successful in his pursuit! “I have decided to attend Le Cordon Bleu in London because I want to make sure that by the time I graduate, I can go out in the real world and know everything that there is to know about cooking. Le Cordon Bleu is known as the best place to learn about cooking. I would love to become a private chef, or maybe own my own restaurant some day.”

Le Cordon Bleu was founded in Paris in 1895. It has a tradition that enables aspiring culinary professionals to turn their ambitions into reality in a wide rage of culinary arts, gastronomy, management, and hospitality programs. Le Cordon Bleu programs exist in 20 countries with 35 international schools where students from all over the world learn classic French cuisine and modern international culinary techniques.

Carter’s enthusiasm about the program is contagious, and we are very excited for him to embark on this opportunity and celebrate how far his passion takes him!
