The Summer Crew – It’s More Personal This Year!

The Summer Crew – It’s More Personal This Year!
Lynne Palmer

We have seen some familiar faces on campus this summer working in various programs and operations. The largest contingency has been in BASS (Brewster Academy Summer School) where five alumni are represented. In the classroom, Teraysa (White) Noyes '08 taught science and CSI curriculum where students learned how to investigate crime scenes in an authentic and hands-on manner while BG Hodges '66 focused on movie making and drone filming (a big hit with students). Our staff of Teaching Assistants in BASS included Greg Luber ‘15 and Jenna Burgess ’17 who showed a boundless amount of energy working with over 60 students representing 14 countries and helping them navigate through the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee and the peaks of the surrounding White Mountains. Maeve Connelly from the class of 2010 and a current Brewster faculty member worked in the afternoon recreation program of BASS and spent a lot of time teaching the skills of canoeing and kayaking to students who were experiencing this for the first time!  BASS Director Barb Thomas appreciates “the pride that the alumni have in what they are doing” and feels that understanding what Brewster is all about through their own experiences makes them more relatable to the summer students.

Jackie Clark ‘15 (below) has spent the most time on campus this summer working as a teaching assistant in the Royal Thai Scholar program one of our longest and most cherished summer groups. Thai Scholars are honing their skills in English and the highest levels of curriculum that will prepare them for their paths to a post graduate year at Brewster and other prep schools and then on to prestigious American universities for their undergraduate degrees supported through the Thai Government.

Two faces on campus that are also familiar to each other are twin brothers and graduates of the class of 2017 – John and Tom Scala (below) who joined the summer grounds crew and have been working incredibly hard to maintain a campus bustling with craft fairs, weddings, sports camps and visiting tourists. We are always thrilled when our alumni return for a visit and even more grateful when they stay!
