The Way Education Should Be

The Brewster Model® offers the perfect balance of academic and emotional development in a diverse community steeped in values that empower every student to do their best without having to best others. We meet you where you are, and tailor your education to your learning style, strengths, and challenges.

You’ll learn within a supportive team environment that helps you to understand yourself, learn from others, and experience the joy of achieving together both in and outside the classroom.

Team-Based Approach

Work collaboratively with other students in a unique, close-knit “school within a school” of 45-55 students and seven teachers who share dedicated classrooms and a team area. All your teachers are in this shared learning space—they meet regularly to review your progress, advocate for you, and assess how they can best help you succeed.

Honoring Diverse Thinkers

We value all learning styles and provide you with the optimal levels of challenge and support for your unique needs. You’ll grow to understand how you learn best, and build confidence as you gain strategies that will serve you through college and into your career.

Real-World Challenges

Collaborative and experiential learning, a global curriculum, and international academic exchange opportunities all push you to new levels of achievement and encourage you to explore new perspectives and interests, and find your path in life.

Intentional Design

Intentional integration of Instructional Support, Social and Emotional Learning, and learning opportunities beyond the classroom provide an educational experience that meets your needs as a whole person with many interests and talents.

Expansive Course Offerings

Varied and expansive course offerings allow you to shape your studies to your interests and goals as you prepare for college. There are courses for every interest, opportunities to dive deep with AP and special topics courses across the curriculum, and a wide range of electives to let you try new things.

Expertise in Teaching

Expertise in teaching and learning is honed through ongoing professional development of our teachers, and a focus on continuously improving our curriculum through research and innovation to keep Brewster at the leading edge of teaching and learning.

Advisory

At Brewster, we believe students thrive when they feel known, supported, and connected. That’s why our Advisory Program is a cornerstone of the student experience. Each year, students are paired with a new advisor from their Academic Team—creating fresh opportunities to build strong, trusting relationships. Advisors get to know their advisees deeply, supporting them both in and out of the classroom. They serve as mentors, advocates, and guides, helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. They are the central hub of communication, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and supported across their Brewster experience. They also are the point person for all parent communications, giving our parents a consistent connection to their child’s life at Brewster.

Advisory groups include 6–8 students from the same Academic Team, creating a tight-knit community where students feel a strong sense of belonging. These groups meet weekly during the school day, come together for special events and meals throughout the year, and serve as a consistent, reliable space for support and connection.

Team Study

Built into the daily schedule, Team Study is a dedicated block of time that ensures every student has access to meaningful academic support outside of regular class hours.

During Team Study, all Brewster teachers are available to meet with students—whether for extra help, follow-up questions, collaborative work with peers, or simply a quiet place to focus. It’s a flexible time designed to meet individual learning needs and promote growth.

Teachers may also use this time to invite students back for more instruction, guided practice, or targeted feedback. Because it’s intentionally built into the academic schedule, Team Study makes space for learning to continue—even amid busy afternoons and co-curricular commitments.

Recognition System

At Brewster, we believe every student can embody our Community Core Values—and that doing so strengthens both the individual and the school. The Brewster Recognition Program encourages this through consistent guidance, feedback, and celebration.

Each recognition period, students are evaluated across academics, activities, residential life (for boarders), and academic team contributions. Our goal is to foster intrinsic motivation. Students who live out our values earn trust and are treated as respected, responsible citizens.

Recognition Statuses

Citizenship Status: Awarded to students who demonstrate Consistent or Exemplary commitment to all core values, with no disqualifiers.

John Brewster Scholar Status: Earned by students who achieve Exemplary ratings in most values and Consistent in the rest, with no disqualifiers.
