The Royal Thai Scholar Program

Since 1992, Thai Scholars have attended Brewster each summer for a 10-week orientation preceding their postgraduate year in the U.S. We are privileged to provide this specialized program for Thailand's top high school graduates.

Students who are awarded a Royal Thai Scholarship have gone through a rigorous exam and interview process. Once selected, Thai Scholars travel to Brewster for a 10-week summer orientation program offering courses in academic writing, U.S. history, cultural adaptation, college guidance, standardized test preparation, literature and writing the college entrance essay. This program is the Thai Scholars’ starting point on their long and challenging educational journey in North America. Depending on the conditions of their scholarship, Thai Scholars are sponsored through the bachelor's degree, while some continue through their doctorate. They are expected  to gain knowledge and ideas to help drive the country’s technological and economic progress. These students leave behind their homes, families, language, and culture to study and compete in top American schools for up to a decade. In return, they commit to working in Thailand for one to two years for every year of education received, with some signing contracts lasting thirty years or more.

One of the goals of the Thai Scholar Orientation Program is to prepare students for the expectations of the American classroom. This program has been specifically designed to provide Thailand's future economists, college professors, research scientists, engineers, and diplomats with the necessary skills to be successful in American schools.  At summer's end, the Thai Scholars begin their postgraduate years at a variety of outstanding preparatory schools in the United States, including Brewster.
