Brewster offers a wide range of opportunities for students to engage outside the classroom. Whether through diverse clubs, community service projects, or leadership roles, there’s something for everyone to explore. Getting involved allows you to make a positive impact, form lasting relationships, and enrich your academic journey.

Affinity Groups

Organized collectives within our school that bring together individuals who share a common identity, background, or interest. Affinity Groups aim to foster a sense of belonging and support among members, providing a safe place for discussing shared experiences and challenges. These groups also pioneer the planning, promotion, and delivery of school-wide diversity initiatives, advocating for inclusivity, cultural awareness, and an understanding within the larger community. By empowering underrepresented or marginalized individuals, Affinity Groups contribute to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, where a true sense of belonging can be felt throughout.

Community Service

Service to others is a hallmark of the Brewster experience and an outstanding opportunity for our students to put our community core values into action. It is an important underpinning of school programs aimed at developing the whole student. Brewster students engage in a variety of community service events throughout the year and are provided diverse options to explore their passions. Activities are planned and organized through dormitories, teams, and school clubs, as well as through local community partners and beyond who may ask for help with their needs.

  • Opportunities to build relationships and explore passions;
  • Understanding local and global perspectives;
  • A variety of diverse, safe, structured environments and activities;
  • The development of many new skills and self-awareness;
  • Pride in community;
  • Habits of service to others

Student Internships

Brewster Interns are students who will work closely with a wide range of adults across the Brewster campus on a project (or projects) designed to teach skills in a specific field, enhance school life, and build leadership capacity while engaging in real work in a “paraprofessional” manner.  Each intern will be paired with a faculty member or administrator who will guide, mentor, and hold those who are members accountable over the course of the year.

"I wanted to be a social media intern because eventually I aspire to get into the broadcasting and sports social media industry and I felt like starting at Brewster would give me a great opportunity to try it and help me to build confidence."

Student Leadership

Brewster's Student Leaders embody and live by our school's core values of respect, responsibility, independence, and interdependence, serving as important role models, community builders and change makers within the school. They are integral in defining the culture of Brewster, filling important roles at all community events, and helping guide their peers in their daily interactions.

Student leaders are selected following an in-depth application and interview process, and are evaluated by current student leaders and faculty. Following selection, candidates must complete an eight-week leadership training before officially being inducted, and then participate in a two-day leadership camp in May with other returning leaders in preparation for the next school year.

There are two major roles within Brewster’s Student Leadership team:

Proctors
All student leaders serve as dorm proctors. They use their training to model appropriate expectations, engage issues to facilitate positive outcomes, and set the tone for school culture within the dorm they are assigned.

Prefects
Any student leaders may also serve as a prefect. There are 2-4 prefects in each grade, divided into academic teams. Prefects bridge the gap between faculty and students, and bring forth ideas to improve the school community. All student leaders may run for prefect. Elections are held at the end of the school year at which time candidates will deliver speeches and are elected by their peers.

Weekend Activities

At Brewster, where we live and learn together as a community, campus life doesn’t stop on Friday afternoons. Weekends are filled with a huge variety of activities that students can choose from all school year.

Whether you're a snowboarder, a knitter, a dancer, a hiker, or museum-goer, there is something for everyone. From community service projects, to a Saturday night “Coffee House” (where everyone is encouraged to perform!), to venturing on a shopping trip to Boston, to the famous mall / movie trips, Brewster weekends are packed with options. Students sign up for both on- and off-campus activities every weekend, and student suggestions are welcome and encouraged throughout the year.

COMMUNITY IN ACTION

Community Action Block

The Community Action Block is a weekly time set aside for students to engage in clubs and affinity groups. It’s a space for collaboration, learning, and advocacy—where you can help shape a more inclusive and supportive community. Together, we work to make Brewster a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and truly valued.
