International Scholars
The Royal Thai Scholar Program
Since 1992, Thai Scholars have traveled to Brewster each summer for an 11-week orientation program offering courses in English, ESL, cultural adaptation, college guidance, SAT and TOEFL exam preparation, and writing the college entrance essay. This program is the Thai Scholars’ starting point on their long and challenging educational journey in North America. We are privileged and delighted to provide this specialized program for Thailand's top high school graduates.
Only Thailand has a government-supported program that sends high school graduates abroad to study through their doctorates to bring back innovative ideas to aid in the technological and economic development of their country. Imagine how courageous these teenagers must be to travel 10,000 miles away from their homes, their parents, their food, their language, their friends, and all that has been familiar to them to study and compete with America's best and brightest in boarding schools, universities, and graduate programs for the next 10 years. That, plus they have agreed to repay Thailand with two years of work for every year of supported education. While some sponsorships are for a shorter period of time, the majority of Thai Scholars have signed a contract for at least thirty years.
Brewster Academy's Thai Scholar Orientation Program is an introduction to cultural adaptation, and one of our goals is to prepare students for the expectations of the American classroom. This program has been specifically designed to provide Thailand's future economists, college professors, research scientists, military officers, engineers and diplomats with the necessary skills to be successful in American schools. At summer's end, the Thai Scholars begin their postgraduate years at a variety of outstanding preparatory schools in the United States, including Brewster Academy.
Employment Opportunities
Each year we employ a number of American college students or recent graduates to work as mentors in the classroom, dorms, and playing fields. If you are interested, send an email to summer@brewsteracademy.org along with a resume and cover letter.
