Arthur Morris Kenison Faculty Award for Career Growth
This award is given in recognition of the faculty member who, over the course of the year, has demonstrated the most accelerated professional growth within the Brewster Academy program:
- Planning and Preparing Instruction: demonstrates knowledge of the discipline, curates materials that are developmentally appropriate and interesting, designs classes with purpose, creativity, and relevance;
- Teaching and Engaging: establishes clear expectations and routines that build and sustain a culture of collaboration, uses different techniques to engage individual students, models and fosters norms of respectful dialogue;
- Assessment and Feedback: Creates assessments that are linked to course goals and that require demonstration of the depth of learning and transfer of skills, provides students with frequent and transparent feedback, and monitors individual students’ progress and opportunities for growth.
- Professional Responsibilities, Collaboration, and Growth: Demonstrates supportive and collaborative relations with colleagues, shows openness towards new ideas, and contributes ideas, expertise, and time to the overall mission of the school.
Arthur Morris Kenison Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
This award is given in recognition of demonstrated excellence in teaching practices and overall contributions within the Brewster Academy community:
- Planning and Preparing Instruction: reflects a deep knowledge of the discipline, demonstrates clear and engaging curricular design grounded in the Portrait of the Graduate, and includes a thoughtful selection of materials and activities;
- Teaching and Engaging: through a plethora of engaging, differentiated, and innovative approaches, builds an inclusive and collaborative classroom culture, sets high expectations for all students, and promotes active listening, civility, and appreciation for multiple perspectives;
- Assessment and Feedback: Creates assessments that are original, have real-world relevance, and are developed intentionally within the course goals and objectives. Feedback is ongoing, growth-oriented, and ensures that each student is supported in achieving the course expectations;
- Professional responsibilities, Collaboration, and Growth: develops and maintains positive working relationships with all adults in the community, actively seeks feedback from others, frequently contributes valuable ideas and expertise to conversations and collaborations with others, and helps build the capacities of others.
