Technology Snapshot
Computer Programming
An elective course, computer programming emphasizes techniques of program development that will enable the student to learn how computer programs control the technological devices we use every day. Topics include control structures, objects, classes, and basic concepts of software development.
Media Arts
Our two high-end media labs offer courses in digital photography, computer graphics, 3D animation, web design, and video creation so that you can extend your media skills if you have a passion in this area. Equipped with a 3D printer, students can design and print objects for use in their 3D animation or core courses.
FIRST Robotics
Brewster is part of the FIRST Robotics program. Each year, teams of high school students and mentors work during a six-week period to build game-playing robots that weight up to 120 pounds. Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, flying discs into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing on balance beams.
Course Management Systems
All Brewster teachers use the Learning Management System called Canvas. Through this system, students are able to access all course materials, complete assignments, and submit assignments all in one place.
Collaboration Enhanced
Brewster has adopted the Google Apps suite of tools to enhance communication and collaboration. Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Classroom all play a critical role in how teachers and students interact.
Specialized Learning Tools
Teachers constantly monitor the educational landscape to find and integrate tech tools to enhance the learning process. This includes Membean, Geogebra, EdPuzzle, Kahoot, Swivl, to name a few. Kurzweil is a tool that allows students to listen to printed materials as a reading aid and is a frequently used tool within the Instructional Support Program.
Wireless Campus
Brewster has wireless network access across campus -- in the classrooms, dorms, and in all of the common spaces. In each classroom we have wireless projection allowing both teachers and students to share their screen with the class.
Apple School
All students provide their own Apple laptop and we see to it that it is equipped with all the software that your teachers expect you to have for your classes. On-campus computer technicians and a laptop loaner program will ensure that you will never be disconnected from the learning experience.
Brewster Portal
Brewster utilizes a portal system which allows you to do a wide range of school-related tasks such as check your performance in your classes, view your schedule, complete weekly reports for your parents, conduct research with our library's databases, and view grade reports.
