Brewster Athletics Celebrates Spring Sports Award Winners

Brewster's spring student-athletes gathered in the Smith Center on May 19 for the annual Spring Sports Awards, where the Athletics Department celebrated the season's standout competitors, presented championship banners, and awarded the Director's Prize.

Athletics Director Connor Wells opened his remarks by setting a clear tone: winning on the scoreboard tells only part of the story. How a Bobcat competes, the effort they bring, and the character they show are every bit as important as the final score.

Wells reflected on a year he described as truly tremendous, praising all 11 interscholastic spring teams for their resilience and sportsmanship in the face of a challenging season. He celebrated individual and team achievements alike, singling out girls' tennis player Alina Yu '26, who went undefeated in individual matches not just this spring, but throughout her entire three years at Brewster. He took a moment to recognize the Athletics Department's core staff, whose dedication to student-athletes covering everything from field prep to travel logistics keeps the whole operation running, and praised his coaches for weaving Brewster's Core Values into everything they do, demanding Respect, Responsibility, Independence, and Interdependence of every athlete in their charge.

The Sports Awards ceremony recognized three teams for winning the Lakes Region League Championship: Girls' Varsity Soccer, Varsity Golf, and Girls' Varsity Tennis. Soccer and golf received their Lakes Region banner, and tennis will receive theirs at the Sports Awards this fall.

The Athletic Department and members of the Tailgate Squad also took a moment to recognize faculty member TJ Palmer, who organized and led the group of students that came out to cook food and rally support for Brewster's athletes and fans this spring. Additionally, Wells thanked Palmer for two decades of coaching with the Boys' Hockey program, a program he helped build, as well as his work on the soccer pitch and softball diamond, where he helped lead Brewster Softball to a Lakes Region Championship. Most recently, Palmer has been guiding novice skiers on the hill at Gunstock as part of the Rec Ski program.

Coaches of each team took to the podium to recognize team award winners, followed by individual end-of-year athletic achievements bestowed upon graduating athletes. Congratulations to all award winners and honorees.

The Director’s Prize
The Director's Prize is awarded at the end of each school year to the best overall Brewster interscholastic team, based on a combination of factors: season record and league success, character on and off the field, and team GPA. This year's recipients posted a team GPA of 3.82, strong Recognition Scores across the board, and what can only be described as one of the biggest league and winning-season turnarounds in Brewster Athletics history. The 2025–2026 Athletic Director's Prize went to the Boys' Varsity Soccer Team.
