Spaces That Inspire Creativity

The Rogers Building is a hub for community and creativity at Brewster. Three floors of innovative, practical, and beautiful design are complemented with an inspiring view from many spaces.

Art Commons and Classrooms

The Arts Commons is centrally located on the lower level of the Grayson Student Center. It features numerous display shelves and gallery walls—ample space for students to showcase their artwork and inspire others. The comfortable lounge area in the center of it all provides another place for students to collaborate, hold meetings, and share their creativity.

Every aspect of Brewster’s art classrooms, located on the lower level of the Grayson Student Center, is designed with the student experience in mind. With rolling chairs and tables, multiple wash stations, and expansive storage cubbies, the room can move and adapt to the needs of the class. Students may find themselves in the classroom for Fundamentals of Art (a freshman art class that rotates through art domains on a trimester basis), Ceramics and Pottery, Digital Photography (with enterprise-grade darkroom), or one of the many other art courses and electives that Brewster offers. The spaces are in regular use outside the academic day as well, giving students the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon arts offering or independently pursue their passion for art.

Ceramics Studio

The ceramics studio is a bright, sun-filled space with lake and mountain views to inspire creativity. Featuring new wedging tables, throwing wheels, two new kilns, sinks, storage, and even a clay recycler, the studio is equipped with everything students need for their projects. With gallery space just around the corner to display finished pieces, the entire community is able to view what our students’ hands create.

Coviello Dance Studio

Coviello Dance Studio is a beautiful and expansive space with mirrored walls, barres, and floor-to-ceiling curtains that draw back to reveal amazing views of the mountains and lake that are iconic to Brewster’s setting. Whether students are choreographing for a dance team performance or trying dance for the first time in class, the Studio is a perfect space to connect and collaborate with movement. The abundance of warm natural light sets a welcoming atmosphere and creates a great space for yoga and team building activities.

The Studio is named in honor of Brewster Trustee Art Coviello and his wife Cathy Coviello, a trained dancer and musician. Through their generosity, the couple believes this space will inspire students to push outside their comfort zones, discover new creative endeavors, and pursue their interests and talents to their fullest potential.

Faith Theater

The multi-use black box-style Faith Theater is a favorite spot for performing arts and community events alike. During the academic day, classes utilize the space to hone students’ theater skills, and after school it's the place for jazz band sessions, photo shoots, or performance rehearsals. The Faith Theater is also home to Brewster’s much-celebrated Coffee Houses, weekend events that draw the community together to support students sharing their performing arts skills. Faith Theater is versatile, ready to transform for any occasion with its wrap-around curtains, three-tier chair seating, professional-level lighting system, and black-out window screens.

The generosity of Karey Fix, Brewster Academy Trustee and former Brewster parent to William and James Keenan, made this space possible, and she named it to honor her father’s favorite mantra: “Keep the faith.” His simple but caring advice, now a permanent part of Brewster’s history, will remind generations of student artists to keep their faith in themselves as they embark on creative discovery and performance.

Grayson Performing Arts Center at Anderson Hall

Anderson Hall is Brewster's premiere performance facility and it is where many school assemblies take place throughout the year. Together the main floor and balcony of Grayson Performing Arts Center offer seating for approximately 500. The Hall is home to a proscenium theater with an in-ceiling acoustical reflector panel that offers superb sound projection throughout the Hall. Eight microphones placed throughout the Hall with control access from the balcony are used for recording performances or live broadcasts.

Music Practice Rooms

At Brewster, we believe that music can be an important part of a well-rounded education. Our music practice rooms invite students to hone their musical talents in a private environment that ensures they can play, sing, and experiment to their heart's content. Soundproof, brightly lit, and aesthetically vibrant, the rooms provide the perfect place to let loose and develop one’s craft uninhibited. Whether a student is focused on classical piano, rock guitar, voice, or any other style of musical expression, these spaces are another way we support our students’ passions and provide them with the resources they need to achieve their musical goals.
